Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) recognizes that parents are their child’s first and most important teachers. ECFE offers parents hands-on learning experiences and parenting discussions that will help for the building blocks for a lifetime of learning. *Please note: Wonderful Ones for Fall 2024 is full. Parent and child interaction time: A licensed early childhood teacher and assistant provide developmentally appropriate activities, songs and stories for parents and children to enjoy together. 2. Child time: A time devoted to learning through play and activities with licensed teachers and assistants while parents participate in a parent discussion time in a separate room. 3. Parent Time: Parents or caregivers participate in a discussion led by a licensed parent educator. Joys and challenges of parenting are shared and topic discussions are designed to address the developmental needs of each group. Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) classes meet once a week. Together, parents and children participate in activities and experiences that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and language skills. ECFE teachers use the Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework and Early Childhood Indicators of Progress: Minnesota’s Early Learning Standards provided through the Minnesota Department of Education. All classes are offered mid September through May. Sibling care is available for most classes. ALL families are welcome. Reduced Rates / Early Learning Scholarships are available. The state of Minnesota requires a health and developmental screening for every child before kindergarten entry into public school. If your child is between 3 and 4, now is the optimum age to be screened so children can then be referred to appropriate resources, if needed. If your child is entering Kindergarten in the fall of 2024, the August 2024 screening will be the last time in which you can schedule an appointment for your child. Next Screening Dates: August 20, 21, 22nd 2024 Early Childhood Educators and a registered nurse conduct the screening. Screening is a quick and simple check of how a child is growing and developing. The Screening Includes: Hearing and Vision Height and Weight Speech and Development Kindergarten Readiness A check of Immunization Records and Family Health Information. The screening process takes approximately 1- 1/2 hours during which time your child will separate from you. They will meet with the Early Childhood Educator to participate in a Developmental Screening. Your child will then have his/her vision and hearing checked by the nurse. Parents, will remain in the registration room until after the screening. A screener will conduct the summary interview to address any concerns, if any, regarding your child’s development and health, after which you will receive a copy of the summary of the screening.
