Swim Levels

• Parent and Child Aquatics Level 1:  Ages 6 months to 2 years

Familiarize participants with the water and teach swimming readiness skills. Provides safety information for parents and teach techniques parents can use to orient their children in water. Emphasis is on safety, games, and smiles.

• Parents and Child Aquatics Level 2: Ages 2-4 

Builds on skills learned in Parent and Child level 1

• Preschool Aquatics 1: Ages 4-5 

Water adjustment, floating, water entries, movement, water safety, and listening skills.

• Preschool Aquatics 2: Ages 5-6

Recommended for students who have passed Preschool Aquatics 1, but are not yet 6 years old. Build on and improve skills learned in Preschool Aquatics Level 1.

• Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills: Ages 6 and up

Objectives of the class include: becoming comfortable in and around the water, breath control, and an introduction to fundamental skills such as floating, gliding, kicking, and arm actions.

• Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills

The main objective of this course is to get the students swimming on their own. Front crawl, back crawl, rhythmic breathing, and combined stroke on back will be introduced. Students must be at least 6 years old and have passed level 1.

 • Level 3: Stroke Development

Building on skills taught in Level 2, the student will improve the front crawl and back crawl. Elementary backstroke and treading water will be introduced along with a continuation of safety skills. This class is for the student who has passed Level 2 or can swim front and back crawl 10 yards unassisted.

• Level 4: Stroke Improvement

This course will work on the skills learned in Level 3 (front and back crawl, elementary back stroke) with an emphasis on endurance and strength. Breaststroke, sidestroke, and new safety skills are introduced. For the student who has passed Level 3 or can swim 20 yards front and back crawl and perform whip kick.

• Level 5: Stroke Refinement

Objective of this class is to refine skills learned in Level 4 along with an introduction to the butterfly stroke. Students will increase the distance of their swims while increasing their knowledge of the strokes. This class is designed for those who have a Level 4 or know scissor kick and can swim 25 yards elementary backstroke, 100 yards front and back crawl.

• Level 6: Personal Water Safety

This course will work on all previously learned skills from Level 5, with an emphasis on efficiency, power, and endurance. For students with a Level 5 or who are able to swim breaststroke and sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and front and back crawl. Students will work on being able to swim to 500 continuous yards and prepare for Guard Start.
