Cloquet Community Education

Cloquet Community Education was awarded a $24,000 Water Safety Grant from the Minnesota Department of Education. The purpose of this grant is to help reduce drownings by providing swim lessons, increased access to lifeguarded swim facilities, and to increase the number of teenagers/young adults certified as a lifeguard or water safety instructor. Scholarships are available only to those receiving Educational Benefits (formerly called Free and Reduced lunch). Eligibility will be verified with the school district your child attends. If you have not applied for Educational Benefits, please go to this link to do so. We can also help you access the online application in the Community Education office as well. Swim lesson scholarships are for ages 4 to 18. Priority will be given to those that have never participated in swim lessons. Depending on the demand for scholarships, if awarded you may apply for a second scholarship in case there are funds remaining. Scholarships are $100 and are to be used for swim lessons with any remaining amounts to be used for Friday Night Family Swims or towards another swim lesson. For example, if your child participates in 2 classes at $45 each, the remaining $10 can be used for Friday Night Family Swims. Or you can use the $10 towards a third swim lesson class. MIGHTY JACKS Swim Club : November - December 2024 This program will focus on stroke, start, and turn techniques in a fun environment. The camp is open to boys & girls who are in 5th - 12th grade and/or who have passed level 4, who are interested in learning more about competitive swimming. Stroke development: freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Advanced strokes and turns: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and free- style. Competitive skills: starts, turns, and finishes. Safety First: Students interested MUST be able to swim without any floatation device. Able to swim comfortably in the deep end, tread water 1 minute Has taken or completed Level 3 or 4* swim lessons. (*if child has not taken any previous swim lessons, they may be eligible by being assessed by coach) Able to swim 50 yards without stopping. (25 yards is one length of the pool, from shallow to deep end) Equipment needed: Goggles - required Swimsuit Towel Swim Cap (optional) - Pro tip: helps keep long hair out of the eyes.

The Cloquet Middle School Pool is open to all ages on Fridays and is lifeguard supervised. Preregistration is required, no drop-in at the door will be accepted. Upon entering the school, please go directly to the pool to check in with the lifeguard before using the locker rooms. Registration closes at 4 pm on Fridays in order to be able to schedule lifeguards. 1. No children under the age of 14 will be admitted unless accompanied by an adult. (If the supervising adult is not swimming, no fee required for the adult) 2. Children under age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult while in the water. 3. Diving board will be open if we have a 3rd lifeguard on duty. 4. Safety Break at 7:15pm (or when necessary). 6:30-8:00 pm $5 person/night
