  • Swim Lesson Scholarship Application - Water Safety Grant 2024-25

Cloquet Community Education was awarded a $24,000 Water Safety Grant from the Minnesota Department of Education. The purpose of this grant is to help reduce drownings by providing swim lessons, increased access to lifeguarded swim facilities, and to increase the number of teenagers/young adults certified as a lifeguard or water safety instructor. Scholarships are available only to those receiving Educational Benefits (formerly called Free and Reduced lunch). Eligibility will be verified with the school district your child attends. If you have not applied for Educational Benefits, please go to this link to do so. We can also help you access the online application in the Community Education office as well. Swim lesson scholarships are for ages 4 to 18. Priority will be given to those that have never participated in swim lessons. Depending on the demand for scholarships, if awarded you may apply for a second scholarship in case there are funds remaining. Scholarships are $100 and are to be used for swim lessons with any remaining amounts to be used for Friday Night Family Swims or towards another swim lesson. For example, if your child participates in 2 classes at $45 each, the remaining $10 can be used for Friday Night Family Swims. Or you can use the $10 towards a third swim lesson class. To help you decide which swim level your child should be enrolled in, please see this link: Swim Lesson Descriptions The scholarships are for children that attend the following school districts: Cloquet Fond-du-lac Carlton Wrenshall Esko Barnum Moose Lake If selected for a scholarship, you will be contacted.
